Subsidy Scheme
The Australian Archaeological Association 2022 Conference will offer a limited number of subsidies to Indigenous and Student-member delegates and delegates with carer responsibilities. The scheme aims to encourage greater levels of Indigenous and Student participation in the Conference and to support the participation of delegates with carer responsibilities. Please note that non-Indigenous delegates can apply on behalf of Indigenous delegates. Delegates can apply for only one of the three subsidies. To be eligible for a subsidy, applicants must be named on a paper, poster or session to be presented at the Conference or be otherwise engaged in conference activities.
Subsidies for Indigenous and Student delegates may be applied for to subsidise the costs of registration, travel and/or accommodation. Subsidies for carers may be applied for to subsidise the cost of having another adult (not registered for the Conference) assist with carer responsibilities to facilitate the registered delegate to maximise their conference experience.
The amount of funding available in the Subsidy Scheme varies from year-to-year, based on the Conference budget and the amount of sponsorship received. This year, the amount of $850 is being offered to Indigenous and Student delegates, which includes the Conference registration fee of $200, plus $650 towards flights and accommodation. The amount of $650 is being offered to subsidise flights and accommodation of a support person for delegates with carer responsibilities. The delegate with carer responsibilities is responsible for paying their own registration, flights and accommodation.
The Subsidy Scheme should not be applied for in the place of other funding sources available to you for professional development or conference attendance in your community, workplace or university. If you do receive conference funds from another source, you can still apply to the Subsidy Scheme for expenses not covered by other sources.
- Student and Indigenous delegates applying for subsidies must be named on a paper, poster or session to be presented at the Conference or be otherwise engaged in conference activities.
- Students must be AAA members and present evidence of being a student at the time of application.
- Only active members of AAA can apply for the carers subsidy.
Applications for subsidies will be considered by the Conference Subcommittee and the outcomes advised by 30 September 2022. In assessing applications for funding, consideration will be given to: what you are doing at the Conference (e.g. presenting a paper); what benefit you (or your) community will receive through your participation in the Conference; and whether you have received funding from the scheme in previous years.
Successful Indigenous and Student applicants will not be required to pay their registration fee in advance, and will be reimbursed $650 in cash at the Conference. Delegates with carer responsibilities will also be reimbursed $650 in cash at the Conference. Recipients of the Subsidy Scheme must attend the Conference and make themselves known to the Conference Manager to receive their payment.
The deadline for applications is 26 September 2022. No late applications can be considered.
